EOC Week 8: Eight Steps

I am using a nonprobability sampling method by using my own judgment to pick my sample population. My target population is locals that go out at least once a week. I’m going to start by sampling people that work at the fashion show mall because I can guarantee they live in Las Vegas. I’m also going to ask people that don’t work on the strip by going to another mall or shopping center and I’m going to post it on facebook for locals to answer. I want to survey 50-100 people.

Dear Local Partiers,

Everyone likes to party in Las Vegas, right? As a local, it’s understood that you have many choices when it comes to where you and your friends go to drink and dance every week. Surrender Nightclub is looking to bring in more locals on a weekly basis to party at the nightclub. Surrender would like to become the new local’s hangout by making it a regular’s hangout that you as locals feel comfortable coming to even more than once a week. They would like your input on what they can do to make the club more appealing to the local market. In order to understand what would make you as the local partier go to the strip and deal with some tourists, the club has developed a small questionnaire about some incentive possibilities they had in mind.

EOC Week 6: Tax Cuts?

This is an article written for people that follow political events very closely and understand politically made statements. Judging by the way the article is written, it leads me to believe that the questions were written in the same type of language without much information given as a preface. This is one thing that is going to greatly affect the outcome of the survey. The bias is immediately recognizable, and therefore, does not represent an accurate response from participants. The first question about continuing the “reduced income tax rates for individuals and other tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003” is vague and doesn’t give people taking the poll enough information about the “individuals” that are receiving the tax cuts in the first place. The question should have told who was currently getting tax cuts by indicating the percentage difference between the individuals with the tax cuts and those without. People probably didn’t even know what they were really voting for. Even the comments made after the results are bias by Danny Gonzales. The article makes it seem like the tax cuts are being given to individuals with children that are struggling to pay their mortgages. In a state where unemployment is rampant and every cent counts, asking people tax cut questions is a touchy subject. People obviously want all the tax cuts they can get so wording is critical.

BOC week 6: Fixing CSN with Market Research

CSN can fix their 5% graduation rate with a little research on the students that go there. The school needs to conduct a survey to answer a hypothesis of what elements of the education the school is providing is not enough to keep students long enough to graduate. This would help the board of regents make decisions on what they could do within the school to increase their graduation rate. The fact that they have such a low graduation rate could be keeping would-be students from attending the collage in the first place. This sends a bad message about the school. They need to find out what it is that brought people to the school in the first place. The survey would have to ask about the students previous educational experiences. They also need to make sure they get enough participation in this survey and ensure that a sampling error doesn’t occur. Each student entering the collage would need to be surveyed on why they had decided to come and take classes. They would have to be asked if they currently had a job and if the classes they would be taking would be to further their career in that field or another one. They would have to also ask some demographic questions to make sure their survey reached a wide enough variety of students. The article in the LVRJ said that the class sizes are getting larger while the staff is being cut. That means classes are getting larger and the potential for learning the material and having enough one-on-one student teacher interaction is dwindling. The survey would need to ask current students if they felt they were learning enough in their classes to be worth the amount they were paying. CSN needs to find out if their current resources are being utilized to their fullest potential. The school would have to be very careful with the wording of the survey so they can get accurate responses.
